Waterski National Competition at Okeeheelee
For waterski enthusiasts, the National Waterski Competition is being held again this year at Okeeheelee Park. This is the 13th time for this 5-day event, free to the public and sponsored by USA Water Ski. This is the largest waterski tournament in the world, where over 600 athletes come from all over the nation to compete for national titles in slalom, tricks and jumping.
The Ski Club of The Palm Beaches and the American Water Ski Association are hosting the Nationals, which kicked off Tuesday, August 13 to 17. Action begins at 8 a.m. each day. Okeeheelee Park has been favored for many years with five lakes which were custom designed for tournament water skiing that offers the best conditions for athletes. And right here in Palm Beach County where we have great weather, it’s also very good for our local economy.
The American Water Ski Association’s National Junior Development Committee will be selling its fund-raiser raffle tickets before and during the 2013 GOODE Waterski National Championships. There will be some great items offered this year, including skis, ski school opportunities, iPads, and much, much more. You do not have to be present to win! There also will be silent auction items available to bid on at the awards ceremony. Raffle tickets can be purchased for $20 each from the various National Team members or from the National Junior Development Committee. So come by and spend some time watching all the athletes compete, it’s a great way to spend an afternoon at the park.
